Parwaaz Hai Junoon Movie Review: “Parwaaz Hai Junoon” (Urdu: پَرواز ہےجُنوں; lit: Soaring is Passion) is a 2018 Pakistani aerial combat-war romantic film, marking the directorial debut of Haseeb Hassan. Produced by Momina Duraid and penned by Farhat Ishtiaq, the film boasts an ensemble cast featuring Hamza Ali Abbasi, Ahad Raza Mir, Hania Amir, Kubra Khan, Alamdar Khan, Marina Khan, Shamoon Abbasi, Adnan Jaffar, Shaz Khan, Shafaat Ali, and Mustafa Changazi in pivotal roles.
Although initially included in the cast, Osman Khalid Butt had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts with his commitments for “Balu Mahi.” A tribute to the Pakistan Air Force, the film premiered on Eid al-Adha, August 24, 2018, courtesy of Momina & Duraid Films and was distributed by Hum Films. “Parwaaz Hai Junoon” ranks as the seventh-highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time.
Story
In the picturesque mountains of outer Islamabad, Pakistan, Sania (Hania Amir) finds solace watching PAF jets in action. The story unfolds with an intense dogfight led by Hamza Haider Ali (Hamza Ali Abbasi) and Nadir Kirmani (Shaz Khan) against enemy planes. Sania, along with a group of aspiring PAF Fighter Pilots, faces challenges and undergoes rigorous training at the academy.
Amidst romance with Hamza, terrorist threats, and personal struggles, their journey unfolds. Hamza’s sacrifice in a Taliban attack leads to a transformation. The film concludes with Sania reminiscing about their journey and a hopeful scene of Saad and Sania flying JF-17s, hinting at a possible romance, while the vision of Hamza’s spirit saluting encapsulates their enduring impact.

Production
Director of media affairs at PAF, Syed Mohammad Ali, and Momina Duraid stated that the film is a tribute to the Pakistan Air Force, drawing inspiration from real-life stories. Duraid further announced that the film’s major earnings would be donated to PAF funds. The casting of Hamza Ali Abbasi and Osman Khalid Butt was revealed at the film’s launch event, with other roles filled by real-life members of the Pakistan Air Force.
However, due to scheduling conflicts, Osman Khalid Butt had to withdraw from the film, and Ahad Raza Mir replaced him. The script was penned by Farhat Ishtiaq. The final cast includes Hamza Ali Abbasi, Ahad Raza Mir, Kubra Khan, Hania Aamir, Shaz Khan, Marina Khan, and Shamoon Abbasi.
